Japan invited to participate in 2011 Copa America
The Japanese national football team has been invited to play in the 2011 Copa America, to be held in Argentina.

Should the team accept the invitation, they will join the ten members of the South American football federation CONMEBOL and regular guest nation Mexico at the tournament.

The Argentinean Football Association has announced that the cities of La Plata, Cordoba, Santa Fe, Jujuy and Salta will be used as the tournament venues.

Japan previously participated in the 1999 Copa America, and will be pitted against the likes of Argentina, Uruguay and reigning champions Brazil.

Earlier this week, Japan enjoyed success in the Kirin Cup, defeating Belgium 4-0 to claim the maximum six points in the three-team tournament.

The team will be hoping to carry their good form into their crucial World Cup qualifying match with Uzbekistan, victory in which would allow Japan to guarantee their place at the 2010 tournament in South Africa.
