Rock group The Wedding Present are to return to
Tokyo next week for the first time in 16 years for a series of performances.
The 80's band will play five concerts featuring a number of tracks for last year's album, El Rey.
Guitarist and singer/songwriter David Gedge told the
Tokyo Reporter that he had fond memories of playing to enthusiastic and appreciative crowds in Japan in the 1990s.
"Fans were waiting for us in the lobbies of hotels as we checked out," he commented, adding: "They followed us around to give us presents and get autographs and photographs."
The Wedding Present formed in Leeds in 1985 and have previously performed in
Nagoya, Osaka and
Tokyo. Gedge will take part in a special performance at the upcoming FuseLeeds09
festival with the BBC Big Band, it has been reported by the NME.
The Wedding Present will perform in Japan between March 10th and 14th.
