Budding athletes who failed in their bid to run in this year's
Tokyo Marathon can take part in a much less physically demanding way, it has emerged.
While more than a quarter of a million people applied to run in this year's event, just 35,000 people were successful.
However, one of the marathon's sponsors, Otsuka Pharmaceutical, has launched an online game in which users can create their own avatar and take part in a virtual version of the race.
Users can choose from a selection of 74 bodies, 69 faces and different types of sportswear.
Online features allow runners to exchange shouts and motivational yells with each other, reports Asiajin.com.
Runners will be able to take in all of the sites of the Japanese capital, including the Kaminarimon Gate and the
Tokyo Tower.
The real
Tokyo Marathon takes place on March 22nd and is followed by the
Tokyo International Women's Marathon in autumn.
