It has finally been confirmed that Hilary Clinton, the new US secretary of state, will visit Japan on February 16th.
Japanese officials confirmed that Mrs Clinton, the wife of former US president Bill Clinton, will meet prime minister Taro Aso and foreign minister Hirofumi Nakasone during a two-day visit to the country.
Among the topics for discussion will be North Korea's nuclear ambitions and the abduction of Japanese nationals in the 1970s.
They will also talk about the global financial downturn and the reconstruction effort in Afghanistan.
Japan today reports that Mrs Clinton may also hold talks with Yasukazu Hamada, the Japanese defence minister.
After visiting Japan, she will then travel to South Korea and China.
In related news, President Obama has admitted he "screwed up" after his choice for health secretary was forced to withdraw his candidacy after it emerged he had a substantial amount of unpaid taxes.
