Japanese snowboarder 'victorious' in World Cup competition
Ryo Aono of Japan has claimed victory in World Cup snowboard halfpipe event which took place yesterday (January 14th).

The snowboarding supremo scored a total of 43.8 points during his second run and finished 3.2 points ahead of Ben Mates of Australia.

He told the Japan Times: "I didn't want to lose at home in Japan."

Shi Wancheng of China came third in the run with 38.6 points.

After three events, Aona leads the overall halfpipe standings having amassed 1,800 points.

Meanwhile, his compatriot Kohdai Watanabe scored 1,400 points.

Last year's event was won by Kazuumi Fujita, who came fourth this year.

In an interview with Snowboarder Magazine in 2008, Aono confidently commented: "Every day when I go riding alone at my home mountain I am riding with the best competitor in the world."

In the women's event, Liu Jiayu of China won her second consecutive World Cup event. ADNFCR-1445-ID-18975136-ADNFCR
