The AIG Japan Open Tennis Championships take place in
Tokyo from September 29th until October 5th.
Among the big names who will be battling it out at the Ariake Colosseum in
Tokyo for a cash prize of $175,000 are world number four David Ferrer of Spain, world number eight Andy Roddick of the US and world number 11 Fernando Gonzalez of Chile.
Last year, David Ferrer defeated the Frenchman and number three seed Richard Gasguet 6-1, 6-2, in the final of the tournament.
Japanese tennis star Kei Kishikori commented: "The AIG Open is the most important tournament of the year for me because it is extraordinary for me to play in Japan. If I can attain good results, this year will be a really good season for me."
In the women's tournament, competitors will include world number 22 Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark, number 23 Maria Kirilenko of Russia and world number 31 Japanese ace Ai Sugiyama.
