Japanese agency finds granite mass below sea
Truth could prove stranger than fiction as a large amount of granite has been found at the bottom of the sea near the coast of Rio de Janeiro which is where the island of Atlantis was said to preside.

The Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) made the announcement alongside the Brazilian government on Monday, May 6th.

An official suggested that because granite is only formed on dry land, the discovery of the large mass suggests that there was possibly a continent in the area which has now sunk into the sea.

The mass was found by members of the Japanese agency who were manning a Shinkai 6500 submersible, and it has been suggested that it could have been part of land which connected South America to Africa.

JAMSTEC recently announced that it had retrieved sensors from what it described as "the deepest borehole observatory ever installed" to help them understand the cause of displacements during the Tohoku-oki earthquake.
