Mao Asado took gold medal at the national figure skating championships in Japan while booking her place in the March worlds in Ontario, Canada, which will serve as qualifying for the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics.
The Japan Times reports that she was confirmed for that competition by the Japan Skating Federation along with Kanako Murakami and Akiko Suzuki.
Among the men, Yuzuru Hanyu took the national title, and was selected along with Grand Prix Final winner Daisuke Takahashi and bronze medallist Takahito Mura to take part in the Canadian event.
After claiming her sixth national title, Mao revealed her disappointment at her own routine, admitting it hadn't been her best performance.
"But this has motivated me to go a level higher in my next competition," she was quoted as saying by the news provider.
At the 2010 Winter Olympics, which was held in Vancouver, Canada, Mao took silver in the ladies singles, finishing behind Kim Yu-Na of South Korea.
Japan's only other medal in the competition came in the men's singles, with Daisuke Takahashi claiming bronze.
