Pelosi plans Japan visit
Nancy Pelosi, the US House of Representatives speaker, is travelling to Japan this weekend.

The speaker is taking a four-day tour of the country and will visit both Tokyo and Hiroshima over the course of her stay, reports Japan Today.

Pelosi, the Democrat representative for California, will be the highest ranking incumbent politician from the US to visit the city of Hiroshima since the 1945 nuclear attack.

During her Japanese trip, the speaker will meet with a number of leading dignitaries and will be the main guest of a dinner being hosted by Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda - as well as having an audience with Emperor Akihito.

The main focus of the visit will be to attend a G8 lower house conference in Hiroshima and Pelosi is expected to pay her respects to those who died in the 1945 nuclear bombing by laying flowers at the city's monument.
