Treble off for Oita Trinita
A giant killing has contributed to destroy hopes of a historic treble by J League side Oita Trinita.

The club had its sights set on winning all three domestic trophies until lowly Sagan Tosu knocked them out of the Emperor's Cup yesterday.

Oita Trinita has taken one step towards the treble by winning in the league cup competition - a result which made their 2-0 defeat to the second division club even more of an upset for the books.

According to Kyodo, Koji Hirose was the hero for the underdogs, putting two past the mean Oita backline.

He told the news agency: "Oita have the best defense in the first division, so as a forward I wanted to test them out.

"They put out a weakened side but we had our pride to think about."

Oita Trinita are still in contention to top the J League. The club was formed in 1994, quickly rising through the divisions to become one of the top flight's leading forces.
