Japan's Gundam robot challenges look-a-like
Fans of a Japanese anime series have raised concern about an imitation robot at a Chinese theme park.

In Japan, the 18 metre high Gundam robot is watched by millions in the popular television show Mobile Suit Gundam.

However, Japan's Fuji Television claims that a similar robot is being displayed in China's Floraland park in Chengdu in the Sichuaan province.

Images show that the Chinese figure features the same logos - EFSF and WB - as seen on the Gundam mothership.

A spokesman for the park told Fuji TV that the design was "original" but following comments that it looked like Gundam it was going to be remodelled.

Meanwhile, an official of Sotsu Co, which handles trademark issues for television programmes said: "We are now collecting information as the details are still unclear."

The first series of Mobile Suit Gundam debuted on Japanese TV in 1979.
