Japan wins sprinting gold
Japan has won a gold medal in the women's 100 metre sprint at the Asian Games.

Chisato Fukushima managed to beat Guzel Khubbieva of Uzbekistan with a time of 11.33 seconds.

It is the first time the country has won the event in 44 years and it is Japan's first athletics gold at this year's Asian Games.

"I'm very happy. The win here will be a confidence boost for the world athletics championships next year and also for the London Olympics," said Fukushima to the Japan Times.

She added: "I had wanted to win at a big tournament and have prepared for the Asian Games, thinking of it as a springboard to compete at the world level."

The 22-year-old is now set to compete in the 200 metre event and the 4x100 metre relay at the Games.

Fukushima won the 100 metre title at last year's Asian Athletics Championships in a time of 11.27 seconds.
