Japan's Haneda airport has opened its new international terminal and a new 2,500 metre runway to meet growing global demand.
The improvements to the airport mean that it could develop as a key hub for visitors travelling to and from
Tokyo. At the end of the month, Haneda will handle international flights for the first time in 32 years. Initially, flights will be available to San Francisco, Los Angeles, Vancouver, British Columbia, Beijing, Seoul, Bangkok and Paris.
A local resident, speaking to Japan Times, explained the new airport will help improve access for travellers.
"Accessibility is great. It's really convenient," said Masakuni Yajima.
At present, Haneda is a major domestic hub and offers connecting flights to airports such as Osaka, Fukuoka and Matsuyama.
Visitors to the new international terminal at Haneda airport will have access to special phones that provide direct access to a 24/7 information centre.
