Boxer misses out on WBC title
Japanese boxer Kohei Kono has failed to take the World Boxing Council (WBC) super flyweight title.

The 29-year-old fighter was beaten by Tomas Rojas of Mexico in a unanimous points victory despite being the favourite ahead of the bout held at the Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.

"It was a good fight. He (Kono) fought bravely like other Japanese boxers. I was able to win despite the down in the end. I hope to come back to Japan and fight again," said Rojas.

Rojas now has a fight record of 34 wins with 23 knockouts, one draw, 12 defeats and one null and void. The defeat means Kono's record now stands at 25 wins, including nine knockouts, and five losses.

The Super Arena is a key venue for sporting and music events, as well as exhibitions and fairs. It is specially designed to be expanded to increase its seating capacity for larger audiences when necessary.
