Japan defeated in badminton cup
The Japanese team at the badminton Thomas Cup have been beaten by Indonesia in the event semi finals.

Now the Indonesian squad - who AFP referred to as a powerhouse of the sport - will play in the final of the cup, which is being held in Kuala Lumpur.

Japan were beaten 3-1 in the semis matches, with doubles team Kenichi Hayakawa and Kenta Kazuno as well as singles player Kenichi Tago all losing to the Indonesian players. Indonesia have won the Thomas Cup 13 times in the past but the advancement to the finals sees the squad given their first chance for victory since 1993.

Overall, the squad have played in the final of the badminton championship 17 times.

One Japanese player was victorious in the event, however. Sho Sasaki beat Indonesia's Simon Santoso, taking the game by 21 to 11.

Other countries taking part in the 2010 Thomas Cup include Denmark, the US and India.
