Takahashi scoops gold medal in skating
Japanese ice skater Daisuke Takahashi has scooped a gold medal in figure skating, making him the first male Asian figure skater to be world champion.

Takahashi skated to victory at the World Figure Skating Championships yesterday (March 25th) with an overall tally of 257.70 points.

Commenting on his victory, 24-year-old Takahashi said that at the previous World Figure Skating Championships, which took place four years ago, he found it difficult to perform to the best of his ability.

He praised the audience for helping him put in a better performance in 2010.

"I enjoyed the competition a lot. The audience helped me and I didn't made any mistake[s]. It's very good," he told news source Xinhua.

According to reports, his final skate in this year's competition in Turin was nearly flawless.

Takahashi also enjoyed victory at the recent Winter Olympics in Vancouver, where he picked up a bronze medal for Japan.
