Disneyland and DisneySea
Tokyo Disneyland
Tokyo Disneyland was the first Disneyland to be built outside of America, and celebrated it's 25th Anniversary in 2008. At the opening ceremony it was said:
"May Tokyo Disneyland be an eternal source of joy, laughter, inspiration, and imagination to the peoples of the world" and this has certainly been the case.
Whilst it is based on the California Disneyland, featuring Adventureland, Westernland, Fantasyland and Tomorrowland, a visit to the Tokyo park is a completely different experience! The fun starts when Mickey says a big "konnichiwa!" when you walk through the gates and doesn't let up...what an experience!
Tokyo DisneySea
To try and satisfy Japan's insatiable appetite for all things Disney, DisneySea was opened in 2001 and is the only one of it's kind in the world. As the name suggests, it is based on a nautical theme and has gone on to become one of Disney's most popular parks, featuring rides not seen anywhere else on earth!
At a cost of over US$4 billion, DisneySea is the most expensive theme park in the world. With faster and scarier rides such as the Indiana Jones Adventure the park is aimed more at adults. However rides such as The Little Mermaid and Aladdin will keep all ages happy.
Disneyland and DisneySea are open everday of the year.
Where:
Tokyo Disneyland and DisneySea are located adjacent to each other in the Tokyo DisneyResort. Contrary to the name, DisneyResort is located just outside of Tokyo, in Chiba Prefecture.
However, the parks are easily accessible from Tokyo and can be reached by train in 15 minutes.
